One of the best things about being a travel and food blogger is when I am sent things to try. This week I was sent some Black Garlic Ketchup
The Black Garlic Ketchup was sweet and tasty. It is made by Hawkshead Relish Company in Cumbria and has just picked up its 5th award. Just tasting this relish is a way to see why it is winning all these awards and I am sure they will be getting a few more. The product is new and if your looking for something a little different then give this a try.
Mark Whitehead MBE, MD who devised the recipe said “The awards were an amazing night and to have won the Best New Product category amongst some of the best food producers in the County was just fantastic.”
I didn’t know what to expect as I have never heard of black garlic. It used whole garlic bulbs that have been slow roasted for 50 days, I guess I would never make black garlic myself as couldn’t be bothered waiting 50 days for it to cook.
I was pleasantly surprised the flavour wasn’t too garlicky and was perfect with the duck I served it with, next I am trying it with pork and mash potatoes as I think it would be delicious stirred into the mash. I also think it would be a good thing to dunk my chips in as a alternative to tomato ketchup.
I cant wait to try some more recipes with it, what would you suggest?
The company that makes this ketchup has some other relishes, chutneys and sauces that look really good. I would like to try the Hawkshead Website on some vanilla ice cream. They also have some great recipes on their website if you are looking for some inspiration.
