10 Types of People on Cruises you are likely to meet

You will meet many people whilst on a cruise, this is a bit of a tongue in cheek article as not all the people on a cruise are nice. You will encounter many different types of personalities whilst on a cruise and I think that is what makes a cruise fun, you just dont know who you will meet. I met a very nice old gentleman who introduced me to the Ibeanians which I explain in my list of types of people who go on cruises you are likely to meet. (This is not intended to cause offence but just be warned some of these people are not nice to meet especially if you are on a long cruise.)

I however relish in meeting different types of people as it gives me great article ideas!! Which one are you?

The moaner

Nothing is ever good enough, they see the bad in everything. The thing I can’t understand is people that moan about cruising but they are on their 17th cruise if they don’t like it then stop going on cruises.

The little princess/prince

Passengers who believe the crew are here to be their personal butlers. Unless you are in a suite and have a butler they are not here to do this. They work hard and they need to be appreciated. Also show some manners the crew are people so treat them like it.

The I got my cruise at a great price person

Yes great you got a bargain, well done but the person next to you could have paid a lot of money and if you tell them something like this it could end up ruining their holiday just keep this information to yourself.

The corridor hogger

Corridors are not very big on ships so if you’re walking down one, walk to one side so people can get past don’t dawdle in the middle. Also walking to one side will help you when you go off balance. Nothing worse than dashing to your cabin as your busting for a wee and everyone is walking so slow.

The quiz masters

People that go to every quiz and tend to win every quiz. It actually takes the fun out of it for others and people stop going as they know they’re not going to win anyway.

The Ibenian

I met a seasoned cruiser that said to me ‘have you met many ibenians’ I thought it was a nationality I hadn’t come across before until he explained and I had to include it in this list as its hilarious.

“I been here, I’ve been there, I’ve been every bleeding where” – aren’t you the lucky ones!

The widow/er looking for a new companion

Some people come on cruises looking for love, some want friendship some just want to be left alone everyone is different. I have met a few widower who have asked me if I am interested in a sugar daddy

Dirty People

Those who don’t use the hand gel when entering food places. I really want to chase after them and go urghhh. It takes two seconds to use the gel and can save illnesses being spread.

I am sure these people would be the first to complain when there is a outbreak of something nasty. I am not sure if this is my old NHS working background coming out in me but the best way to stop the spread of germs is washing hands and using this gel.

I see people coming out of the toilet and going straight into the food places and not using it

The money seeker

Who is seeking out the widows to woo for their pennies. I was actually asked on one cruise if I am searching for a wealthy widower since I was so young, I was quite insulted.

The food putter backer

I have seen many times people pick put something on their plate and then put it back in the buffet don’t they realise this is such an easy way to spread germs

  1. Haha–I love this! We’ve been on several cruises, and it does seem like you tend to get at least of few of these on every one. 🙂 On this last cruise, it seemed like we had a rash of people in poor health since the boat had to head back to our port one night after 10 hours out in the water and then had to have an emergency stop in Key West on the second to last night. Here’s to hoping that there are less medical issues on the next cruise we go on!

  2. I actually LOL at this list! I’ve only been on one cruise (it was the perfect way to travel with a toddler) so I was amazed with how many of these people I had met! The food putter backer never occurred to me and is the grossest thing ever!

  3. Haha hmm well I’ve never been on a cruise before, but this post made me laugh! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  4. Haha that’s a funny list to read. I’ve only been on short cruises and luckily have not met all of these people. I’ve only bumped into drunk ones who thought I was their long lost daughter or something :))

  5. This is so funny, one of my best friends has been working on a cruise for years, and many of the stories he’s told me about reflect your post so much! Great read 🙂

  6. You make it sound a dreadful place 😉 where we have to run from a lot of horrible people. For the widows, you must blame it on “The Love Boat”. Nevertheless I would love to give it a try once, and maybe have a dance with the captain (if good looking!)
