Nervous about going on a large group tour

I am actually really nervous about my next trip. I have not been travelling much this year due to cancer treatment and even though I feel well enough to travel I seem to have lost a little confidence.

I am going on a group tour to Morocco. It is actually really out of my comfort zone. Firstly the age of the group is 18-39. I am 37 so wont be able to go on this sort of tour for much longer but I have always been worried that they will be full of younger travellers who want to get drunk rather than see the sights.

However I am hoping because this particular itinerary is visiting some amazing places that the travellers will hold off on their drinking a little. I am not saying I dont want them to have fun I just dont want to be surrounded by loud drunken youths. Hoping I am not stereotyping anyone.

Also it is a bigger group than I have travelled with before. I dont know exactly how many people will be on the tour but it says it can be around 40. This is a lot of people so I guess it is going to take some organising to get us to the places on the trip. I am also hoping it is going to be a nice mix of people and I will meet some travellers that I can connect with.

We will be travelling on a coach. I am not the best traveller when it comes to coaches unless I have space I get a little claustrophobic it takes me back to my school days when I used to get travel sick on coach school trips. I am hoping the tor wont be so big that I can have a spare seat next to me or at least have a window seat.

I chose this tour because it had 50% off and there is no way I could have done the same itinerary at the same cost. I know I have done it cheaply and I am not expecting high standards it is mainly a source to get me to the places I want to go but at the same time I do want to enjoy it.

I will also be camping. I have camped for the first time this year and did love it but this is camping n the Sahara Desert I hope I dont start panicking about being in the middle of nowhere as it does sound like an amazing thing to do and it is one of the reasons I have booked this group tour as there is no way you could go camping in the Sahara on your own well unless you are very very brave I guess.

Anyway come back in a couple of weeks and I will update you on how I actually got on with the large group tour. If you have any tips for me travelling in a large group or even to Morocco then please get in touch.

  1. You’ll be right Jenni! I used to lead these tours in Aus and Asia and we used to get a real mix of ages and personalities. Like you said if you book the more remote tours with a culture focus you do tend to get a different style of traveller than a trip with the same company around Europe for example. Go in with an open mind and enjoy! So glad to see you are out and about again.

  2. It sounds like you’ve considered everything you needed to before booking this tour. I agree with Jess – an open mind will be your best tool for success. Enjoy, and I can’t wait to hear about it when you get back.
    Happy and safe travels!

  3. Nice post. I am also into camping. I love what travel brings me. Thanks for sharing your travel experience 🙂

  4. I took a tour like this with Contiki a few years ago when I was 33 and it was a lot of fun! There were a lot who were younger than me, but also some in the same age range. I hope you enjoy!
