7 Reasons to Visit Bangkok

Bangkok is always going to hold a special place in my heart as it was where I met my first Travel blogger and decided that was what I was going to do. I did a great food tour in Bangkok unfortunately this was at the end of the trip as it was so yummy I would have returned to the places again.

Bangkok has become one of the most visited cities in the world for a number of reasons. It is an excellent value long haul city break, without scrimping on attractions. It is the perfect place to travel solo, travel with kids, or travel in a group. If you are travelling to Thailand, be sure to factor visiting Bangkok into your itinerary or visit Bangkok as your sole destination – you won’t be disappointed

Here are 7 reasons why you should visit Bangkok.

Bangkok is Excellent Value

In financially uncertain times, finding a city break which is excellent value is tricky. Bangkok is an exception to the rule. You can stay in 5 star luxury, at hotels such as the JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok for really reasonable rates. I was so surprised at how cheap everything is especially if you stick to local food. I stayed in wonderful hotels throughout Thailand at a fraction of the cost of Europe, this is one of the reasons i can not wait to return to South East Asia.

The best time to visit Bangkok is in December to March. A great winter sun destination for when the weather at home is pretty terrible!. I visited in October and although it was warm it did rain a lot which meant it wasn’t the best time for a beach holiday but great for touring as it wasn’t as busy.

Amazing Food in Bangkok

Bangkok is a gastronomic delight being home to some of the best restaurants in Asia. There are restaurants that have been awarded an abundance of Michelin stars and of course eating out is very reasonable. You can experience fine dining at an excellent price. I highly recommend doing a food tour if you are in Bangkok, here is a great food tour in Bangkok.

It is best to eat the local food for the best value and also the best flavours one of the things I had a lot of was sticky rice, it seemed to be everywhere. I am not a huge rice fan but this was good.

Bars in the sky

Bangkok is renowned for its amazing nightlife. The skyline is dominated by skyscrapers and there are some rooftop bars in Bangkok situated so high that you feel you could reach out and touch the stars! The views are amazing and are an excellent spot to bring in the new year whilst looking down on the spectacular firework displays. One such bar is situated on the 59th floor of a hotel tower. It is open air and offers 360 degrees panoramic views, a fabulous backdrop for sipping champagne.

The nightlife in Bangkok is famous and you can go clubbing every night of the week. There is music to suit all tastes and people travel from all corners of the world to visit Bangkok’s vibrant nightlife. Surprisingly some of the clubs shut at 2am, so start early! Must see night life experiences include rooftop bars, ladyboy bars, night markets and world renowned clubs.

Shopping is Great in Bangkok

If shopping is your “thing” Bangkok offers every shopping experience available. There are air conditioned, sky scraping shopping malls, famous bustling street markets and there is even a floating market. Many of the shops and markets come to life at night, creating a lively atmosphere. Bars are also situated in shopping areas so you can refresh along the way. From designer to vintage there are outlets to suit all tastes and best of all, the prices are incredibly reasonable.

I loved shopping in the market stalls especially around the backpacking area I picked up some great t-shirt for pennies. I also got a few phone cover cases and souvenirs. There are lots of different markets in Bangkok to keep you shopping throughout your trip. A interesting one is the Chatuchak Weekend Market.

Festivals and Concerts

Bangkok is the venue for international renown artists to perform, which surprises me as it is not something I would associate with Bangkok. Previous artists include Michael Buble and One Direction.

The Architecture

From the impressive modern sky scrappers to the traditional Grand Palace which is amazing to see over the Chao Phraya River there are definitely some impressive buildings in Bangkok.

The people

The Thai people have stated that their country is “the land of smiles”. This is true and they are polite, friendly and accepting. Thai people have a lovely sense of humour and will generally giggle a lot, if they find something amusing. Of course this is only a general view and there are exceptions to the rule. Many people state that the Thai people are the friendliest people they have ever met on their travels.
