4 Amazing things to do in Croatia

Croatia is a beautiful country to visit, with the lakes and stunning beaches it is no surprise it is becoming a popular destination. I keep seeing pictures of Croatia on social media and I am surprised that I have not visited this destination more as it is so beautiful.

Whether you are planning a weekend break to Croatia or you have 2 weeks in Croatia to explore more of the country I can guarantee you are going to have an amazing time.

In the last decade, Eastern Europe has seen a huge surge in tourism. Some places like Prague and Budapest are popular as part destinations as well as cultural hubs, often because they are incredibly cheap to get to and the cost of living over there is very low.

One of the most popular places to visit in Eastern Europe right now is Croatia. This collection of over a thousand tiny islands has got a bit of everything; great cities, beautiful beaches and picturesque countryside and it’s cheaper than a lot of the other countries in the area that attract more tourism. If you’re considering Croatia for your next trip, these are some of the best things to do while you’re out there.

Gorski Kotar Nature Reserve

Croatia has some rich countryside with all sorts of incredible landscapes and amazing animals to discover, making it the perfect place for nature lovers.

The Gorski Kotar nature reserve is an absolute must if you’re interested in spotting some wildlife while you’re in Croatia. You’ll find wolves, lynx, brown bears and boars.

The best thing about visiting wildlife reserves in Croatia is that a lot of them are largely untouched by human hands so you can truly see these majestic creatures in their natural habitat and some will even come right up to you.

Plitvice Lakes

If the Gorski Kotar nature reserve isn’t enough for you and you want to explore more of the amazing natural features that Croatia has to offer, you should head out to Plitvice Lakes.

This impressive collection of lakes is home to some awe-inspiring waterfalls and even more exciting wildlife. You can easily lose yourself for a day just wandering around the area and exploring the waterfalls and lakes.

I have visited Plitvice National Park and it definitely deserves a place on this list of amazing places to visit in Croatia, it is stunning and I would highly recommend you plan a visit.

Split

Split is the most popular tourist destination in Croatia and for good reason. This beautiful coastal town boasts sandy beaches, great weather and authentic Roman architecture.

The Diocletian’s Palace is one of the most impressive historical buildings in the world, as is the Cathedral of St. Dominus. But don’t worry, if you’re after something a little more fast paced, Split has plenty of amazing bars and restaurants to hit up in the evening. It’s this blend of traditional and modern that makes the city so great.

If you’re looking for something different, sailing holidays are worth a look because the clear blue waters and incredible mountain landscapes make Split the perfect place to get out on the waters. You can also take a boat tour from Split down to some of the other cities along the coast of Croatia.
