I visited Dublin for my 18th Birthday I don’t actually remember much, mainly because it seems like so many years ago but also because it was more of a drinking holiday rather than a sightseeing holiday so I definitely needed to return one day.
If the time has come for you to finally venture across to Ireland and spend some time in its capital city, there are some things you should know before you pack your bags and head off.
It is always savvy to take out travel insurance. A short take modest ticket flight could end up being over the top expensive if you needed to surge back at short notice or in the event that you missed your arrival flight. Anyway cautiously pick the travel insurance broker and check the Terms and Conditions
Like most capital cities, Dublin is a vast and varied one with so much to offer first-time (and repeat) visitors like yourself. That’s why you need to know how to get the most out of that trip without making mistakes and wasting time while you’re there.
Spend Time Amongst the Locals
When you’re in Ireland, it is always a good idea to spend time with the local people. They tend to be very warm and friendly, always happy to help out people who need advice or assistance. And by talking to them in cafes and pubs around the city, you’ll find out more about Dublin from people who know and understand it best of all. It is better than any guidebook as you find out the true feel of the city.
I advise you to do this in any city although it is sometimes hard to find locals in a city such as Dublin that is so full of tourists. When I visited many moons ago it was great talking to all the people I met whether local, tourist or alien.

Leave Room in Your Schedule for Unexpected Adventures
There should always be a little extra room left in your schedule whenever you’re heading anywhere. That’s because you want to be able to deviate from your plans a little and head in whichever way the day takes you. There are so many unexpected adventures you might find yourself going on as you explore Dublin, and that’s not a bad thing at all.
Don’t Necessarily Reject the Popular and Clichéd Things
There are many clichéd things that you can do in Dublin, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do them. For a start, the most popular attractions in the city are popular for a reason.
And there are also lots of ways in which you can have fun with clichéd things. Don’t worry about all this; instead, focus on having a good time. I spent most of my time in Temple Bar as it was my 18th Birthday so I was celebrating with a few pints of Guinness and I swear it tastes totally different in Dublin than it does back in the UK.
Make the Most of Tour Guides
If you don’t really know where you’re going or what the most interesting things in Dublin are, you can do much worse than to follow a tour guide. There are many different types of tours that go on in Dublin, from walking tours to bus tours. Likewise, there are day tours throughout Ireland, so you should make the most of them. It will give you the highlights in a more condensed fashion.

Don’t Confine Yourself to Dublin
Finally, you should remember that there are lots of small towns and coastal locations not far at all from Dublin, so you shouldn’t necessarily confine yourself to this one city. If you’re in Dublin for a week or more, why not take a day trip by train or car to one of the appealing places found nearby. It’ll be a good way to broaden your horizons a little.
Dublin is without question one of the finest and most impressive capital cities in all of Europe, so if you’re due to be heading there soon, you should be very excited. Just remember that you will make the most of your time in this wonderful city if you follow the advice and use the tips mentioned above.
