5 Top Things to Do in Ottawa, Canada
Are you planning a trip to Ottawa in Canada, if so you need to check out these 5 cool things to do and definitely add them to your itinerary. Fellow blogger who live in Ottawa, Divine Mwimba tells us her 5 favourite things to do in Ottawa.
“I love the City of Ottawa and if you are looking for some fun things to do while in town, then you are in luck!”
If you are not familiar with Ottawa, it is the Capital city of Canada. It is visited by thousands of tourists each year as they make their way around the city looking at everything we have to offer.
Visit the Parliament Hill
Although I have lived in Ottawa for many, many years, visiting the Parliament Hill is something I frequently do.
They are so many activities offered on the Hill so this will never be a boring place to visit.
If there is nothing going on at the Parliament Hill when you are in town, it never hurts to walk the grounds and learn more about the History of Ottawa and of Canada as a whole.
There is always something fun, unique and exciting going on at the Parliament so make time for a trip.
Make use of the Museums in Ottawa
Ottawa is definitely home to many Museums. In fact, we have days and times when these museums are free to visit. If you want to learn about the History of Canada, then the Museum of History located Downtown Ottawa is where you need to go.
The Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Nature are free every Thursday evenings from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Other Museums in Ottawa that deserve a visit are the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, and the recently renovated Canadian Science and Technology Museum.
My personal favorite museums are the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum.
But if you are really tight on time and you had to chose one, the Canadian Museum of History will do. Perfect for learning everything you need to know about Canada.
Check out the busy ByWard Market
The most popular market in Ottawa is the ByWard Market which is located right in the busy downtown location of the city. The market is closed during the winter season, but when it opens up again, it is definitely the place visit in Ottawa.
The ByWard Market operates between May and November but this will definitely depend on the weather. Ottawa is well known for its unpredictable weather.
If you do visit the market while in Ottawa, you will be able to see the local street vendors which we love supporting, the gorgeous boutiques, the farm vendors and the amazing restaurants in the area.
Visit the Castle – Chateau Laurier
Yes, Ottawa has a Castle of its own. Be sure to make some serious time to visit the Fairmont Chateau Laurier which is Ottawa’s own luxurious hotel.
This amazing hotel is located in the corner of Rideau street and Sussex drive, overlooking the very popular Rideau Canal. It is right in the centre of everything and close to the Parliament Hill.
Be sure to Attend At Least One Festival in Ottawa
From all the places in Canada to visit, Ottawa is one you will love. The festivals that take place in Ottawa are highly entertaining and they have something for everyone to enjoy.
A lot of the Ottawa Festivals happen on Spark Streets downtown. Some of my favorite Festivals in Ottawa are the Ottawa International Busker Festival and the GlowFair Festival.
