If you are looking for a family friendly spa hotel with amazing views then look no further than the Bedruthan Hotel and Spa in Cornwall.

I had a complimentary stay here and in their sister hotel the Scarlet which is close by and is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at.

The Bedruthan hotel is great for families and also if you have full mobility to get to use all of its facilities. If you have limited mobility I would recommend the Scarlet Hotel as it is easier to use its spa facilities.

Arriving at the Bedruthan Hotel and Spa

First impressions were how colourful and bold the décor was at Bedruthan Spa.

Check in was friendly and simple.

The hotel is dog friendly and caters for children. I am personally a single, normally solo traveller so do not use the childcare facilities but they did had babysitting facilities and children clubs making this the perfect place for a family holiday. They even have surfing lessons.

There is a large carpark and we arrived just after 3pm and it was nearly full we managed to get what looked like the last parking space.

There is one lift that goes to the rooms and down to the floor with the reception and restaurants so it did take a while to get to your room at busy times especially as it was small so only fitted about 4 people.

I liked the fact they had trolleys to help bring your luggage in meant I didnt have to do a number of trips to the car, also the kids I saw loved them as they got to have a little ride.

I was on the 2nd floor which had a lovely view over the atlantic, unfortunately I didnt have a balcony which wuld have been amazing to sit out and look at the views over the sea.

Be careful of the babysitting monitor on the wall as I had accidently turned this on and at night the reception ended up hearing what was going on in my room luckily they phoned after about 10 minutes so didnt hear to much and it did give us a good laugh.

I must have had a family room as we had 2 single beds set up for sleeping and then there were 2 more single beds in the sitting area.

The room was nicely decorated and had a TV, adequate storage, tea and coffee making facililties and a small en suite bathroom.

The toiletries smelt gorgeous and you cant beat something refreshing and smelling lovely after a hot day exploring Cornwall.

I liked the décor of the rooms it as fresh and clean with a homely feel. I liked the glass bottle of water in the fridge that you could refill whenever your required.

They also had fresh milk cartons which isn’t very common in hotels. The biscuits they had were also delicious.

The Bedruthan hotel does focus on being environmentally friendly and there were recyclable bins around the hotel.

We stayed during a heatwave in the UK and the room doesnt have air conditioning or windows that open wide so it was stifling hot.

We were given a industrial style fan but this was very noisy and didnt really cool the room down.

However the UK doesnt normally get such intense heat so this was an exception and maybe the hotel doesnt require air conditioning normally in the rooms at least they tried by offering a fan.

I heard many of the guests saying their rooms were very hot but again we are British and love complaining about the weather so I would not let this put you off booking a room but it is something to be aware of.

Food and Drink at the Bedruthan Hotel & Spa

The Bedruthan spa hotel has a restaurant and a cafe that offered good quality dishes with the menu changing daily for what is in season.

Breakfast was a busy affair with self service buffet style and also the option of ordering daily specials. All the food I had during my stay was cooked to perfection and tasty.

We had a drink from the bar and sat outside in the sunshine watching the waves below.

We had our evening meal in the Herring restaurant which had large windows overlooking the sea which was beautiful.

However due to the heatwave they had closed the curtain to block out some of the heat. My photos do not do the inside of the hotel justice because the sun was shining it but it was a lovely looking hotel.

The menu is a set 3 course dinner I didnt find the choices extensive and I found it a little hard to find something to order that I would like.

If you didnt eat cheese or fish it felt like this wasn’t the right menu, maybe we just had the wrong day as when I looked at the example menu online it all sounded really yummy.

We were given some Da Bara bread with Trewithen butter and the butter was delicious. I started with a stuffed courgette flower. I have to say this was a first for me and I felt a bit strange eating a flower but it was really tasty. It was quite light and I would definitely order again.

My mum had some locally caught fish which she enjoyed.

For main course we both had the beef tenderloin which came with seasonal vegetables.

The beef was cooked medium rare and was tender and juicy and the vegetables were different to what you normally get in restaurants which made a nice change.

I was slightly disappointed with my dessert I had strawberry trifle but it was dry sponge with a few strawberry’s and cream and not really my thing.

My mum had a Baileys cheesecake with popcorn and a chocolate sorbet. She doesnt normally like sorbets but enjoyed this one and I tried a bit and it was good.

There were no children in the Herring restaurant and it was recommended to book a time you wanted to dine.

The Wild café had a more relaxed atmosphere and to be honest a menu that I found more palatable mainly because they had a burger and I love trying different burgers from around the world.

The café also has a children’s menu. Saying this though the food I did have was nice.

How accessible is the Bedruthan Hotel and Spa

The hotel is build on the side of a cliff so it was quite hard to get around with limited mobility so if you do have limitations but still want to explore the spa facilities I would have to recommend looking at a different hotel as it will be hard to use all the facilities.

Getting to the room and main areas was OK but there was no lift and lots of steps to get to all of the spa facilities.

The Spa facilities at the Bedruthan Hotel

The spa facilities looked very luxurious. Due to just finishing chemo I couldn’t actually use them during my trip but I got to walk around and it looked so nice.

There were lots of places to sit and relax outside and I didnt find it too busy so you would always find that special place to sit.

It smelt amazing walking around the spa facilities as they have created a sensual aromatic area with herbs and flowers in the spa gardens.

I would love to have tried out the hot tubs and foot spas as well as the swimming pools.

The Bedruthan Hotel and Spa is a great Cornish Hotel to have some relaxing times especially if the weather is nice as a lot of the spa facilities are outside so it was perfect during a UK heatwave.

There was a indoor and outdoor swimming pool which both looked so good.

I did however have a wonderful massage. The massage suites were very relaxing and I had a bespoke foot and leg massage which did the trick of making me feel relaxed and stress free.

What makes the Bedruthan Special

The thing that makes The Bedruthan hotel special is the views. I have never been to Cornwall before and I was gobsmacked at how beautiful the beaches were.

The beach close to this hotel was stunning and I enjoyed sitting in the hotel gardens watching the surfers below.

This is more of a family orientated hotel so perfect if you are looking for a break with the kiddies and dog.
