How to go from Bangkok to Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is a mountainous city which is located in northern Thailand. The Old City lures tourists and travelers from all across the world because it is a historical cultural and religious center.
It is home to hundreds of Buddhist temples that date back to the 14th and 15th century. Most people who are in the Thai capital of Bangkok, make a trip to Chiang Mai, although it is at a distance of about 700 km away. After all, it is hard to resist the mystical land of colorful hill tribes, which is indeed a delight for adventurers.
Chiang Mai may be far away from Bangkok, but the travelling between the two cities isn’t as difficult as one may think. There are various modes of transportation that one can choose from like by air, land, or rail. If you are in Bangkok then I recommend visiting Chiang Mai for the elephant sanctuary this is one of the best travel experiences I have had.
Fly to Chiang Mai
Flying from Bangkok to Chiang Mai is the fastest way to reach. There are several low-cost carriers that fly from Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok and operate daily flights. Compare fares and terms, and if you search well, you are sure to find great deals with some of the airlines.
The flight can take around 60 to 70 minutes and is considerably faster than other means of transport. Book your ticket as far in advance to get the best deals and often, you pay the same fares as the trains if you book in advance.
Take the train to Chiang Mai
Another popular way of reaching Chiang Mai is via trains. There are several trains that run between Hua Lamphong Station in Bangkok to Chiang Mai Station.
The trip can last between 12 and 15 hours. Some of the trains can be uncomfortable, and delays are common. One can book their tickets in the air-conditioned carriages, but the fares can be a bit more expensive. Go for overnight trips in trains as the services are ideal for the long journey.
Despite the lengthy time, trains are surprisingly popular, and it is chiefly because of the lower prices and the chance to enjoy the wonderful scenery as you travel from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
Ride a bus to Chiang Mai
There are several bus tour operators who run numerous services, between Bangkok and Chiang Mai during the day and at night. You can take the bus from the Northern Bus Station in Bangkok and arrive at the Arcade Bus Station in Chiang Mai. One can choose between regular and VIP bus services.
The luxurious and VIP services are, of course much more comfortable but cost more. The prices and amenities can vary depending on the operator and the type of bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai that you choose.
Rent a car and drive to Chiang Mai
Although enjoying a road trip is a good idea, one should be aware that roads are people really do not follow the traffic rules. There are places where the signs are not very clear, and often the roads are empty outside of big cities. It is common to see people getting drunk and drive in the evening.
The roads are good, but some of the rural roads are not well lit. Still, one can rent a car with a driver who speaks English and who can work as a translator and tour guide. It sure can be an incredible experience driving through beautiful mountain scenery, villages, and jungles.
Rent a car from a reliable tour operator and go-ahead for an authentic Thailand experience. But keep in mind that traffic can be insane and it might be a better idea to fly or travel by bus or train to Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai, well known as ‘Rose of the North’, boasts of must-see attractions. It is indeed a must to travel to this place if you happen to be in Bangkok and are a curious traveler.
