3 Best Places For A Cultural Trip

There are many reasons why you might love to travel, and everyone is slightly different in this respect. But a common and popular reason to see much of the world is because you might want to experience a number of different cultures in your lifetime, and travelling is the only real way to do that.

If you are someone who is keen to see as many different cultures as possible, then you are probably also keen to travel plenty. But there are certain places in particular which are especially fascinating when what you are looking for is something of a cultural trip – and those are what we are going to look at today.

This post will focus solely on destinations which are particularly interesting as cultural highlights, so you can believe that visiting any of these will give you a good sense of cultural intrigue.

If you have never visited Italy, you might well have an image of it in your head which is half-modern and half-ancient. This is, after all, one of the real wellsprings of Western civilization, and it is absolutely full of endlessly fascinating cultural historical highlights which you will be glad to see – as well as being the birthplace of pizza, everyone’s favourtie food. If you are thinking of going to Italy at some point, there are a few parts in particular which you will have to see if you want to really get into the culture there.

Firstly, and most obviously, there is Rome. This is genuinely one of the very top cultural spots in the world, and you have to visit it at least once. Rome is home to the Colosseum, the Forum, and much more besides, and is like a Western history lesson all of its own.

There are few places in the world with as many ruins, or as many fascinating snippets of history, as the Italian capital, and you should absolutely consider it essential for a cultural trip in Italy. What’s more, there is of course the Vatican there, a nation state all to itself and the world’s largest religious building. If that doesn’t fascinate you, nothing well.

There is more in other parts of Italy however, and the history lessons don’t stop there. Travelling to the south of Italy, you can come across the ancient ruins of famous Pompeii, the city that was all but destroyed by an eruption of Vesuvius many years ago.

You have probably heard lots about Pompeii and seen plenty of photos, but there is nothing like getting up close and personal with those ruins and walking in that lost ancient city.

This is absolutely a top cultural spot in the world, and one of many reasons why you might want to consider Italy for your next highly cultural trip.

Because what you are looking for with a cultural hit is something a little unusual or unlike what you are used to, you absolutely have to consider Istanbul as well. If you have never looked much into this, you will find that it is a particularly fascinating and wholly unique place, and you might be astonished to discover what it is really like to wander around.

The thing that it is really known for is that it is a kind of meeting place of the East and West, and it is this cultural clash which makes it particularly special – and, if we’re being honest, a little bizarre – to visit.

Visiting Istanbul is like being half in the East and half in the West, and it is a fine balance which remains to this day thanks to the way in which the place is laid out, and how much tourism it gets.

By being a tourist there yourself, you will of course be helping with this, but you will also be a willing visitor and perceiver of what is going on – and if you are like anyone who has visited before, you are likely to discover that it is profoundly strange and unique for being such a meeting-place of cultures.

If you really want to discover it as best as you can, you might want to consider taking a private half day tour Istanbul, as that way you can be led around by a guide and really appreciate much better what it is that you are seeing. However, even just wandering alone will be sure to throw up a number of fascinating and interesting sights, so that is something you should still consider too.

If nothing else, you will come away feeling that you appreciate the East and the West both considerably more effectively and fully. That is certainly something very valuable to feel indeed.

This is literally the number one most visited city in the world, so it is highly likely that you at least know somebody who has been there, if you have not been yourself.

Whether or not you have, it is one of the world’s top cultural highlights, and definitely something to consider if you are thinking of finding somewhere culturally fascinating to visit.

There is so much going on in Bangkok that you would be forgiven for wanting to return again and again to make sure that you have really seen it all, so this is something that you might want to bear in mind the first time you go. But all in all, it’s a fantastic cultural trip which you will be talking about for years afterwards.

If you manage to go during the Thai new year festival of Songkran, you will be witness – and partied – to one of the most interesting festivals in the world. This is essentially a giant water fight in the city, where everybody has a super soaker and everyone gets extremely wet indeed. If that sounds strange, it profoundly absolutely is, and it is the kind of experience you just have to try if you want to fully understand it. But one thing you have to agree on is that it is a special and even holy feeling when you are being a part of it.
