Lake Louise ski resort in Alberta, Canada, is preparing to welcome skiers earlier than scheduled, with its winter season now set to begin on Sunday, Nov. 1.
The resort initially planned to open on Nov. 6. The revised date marks its second-earliest season opening in its history, following favorable October temperatures and work by its mountain team.
Visitors will have limited terrain available at the start of the season. The opening-day offering includes access to the Easy Street trail through the Juniper Express lift, along with two terrain parks featuring jumps and rails.
Lake Louise will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the early-season opening. Its mountain webcams also show snow coverage across the resort ahead of Sunday’s launch.
The announcement adds another destination to North America’s growing list of early ski season openings. Colorado resorts Arapahoe Basin and Keystone have already started welcoming visitors this week, while Wolf Creek is scheduled to open on Halloween.
Meanwhile, Banff Sunshine Village, Lake Louise’s neighboring resort, has yet to announce an opening date.
The two Alberta destinations typically begin their seasons around the same period, making Sunshine Village’s next update worth watching for skiers planning a visit.
Many other ski resorts across North America are still scheduled to open in late November.
Lake Louise’s earlier start, however, gives winter sports enthusiasts another opportunity to get on the slopes ahead of the traditional opening period.
Lake Louise ski resort’s upgrades to look forward to
Beyond the early opening day milestones, the early launch sets the stage for a highly anticipated winter season defined by extensive capital upgrades completed over the summer.
Following a historically snowy previous year, the resort has invested heavily in terrain expansions, lift infrastructure, and on-mountain navigation to elevate the guest experience.
According to official property statements featured on the Lake Louise Ski Resort News Feed, the headline development is major enhancements to Richardson’s Ridge. The website posted:
“It’s time to warm up those ski legs! Lake Louise Ski Resort opens for the 2026/27 winter season on Sunday, November 1, five days ahead of schedule and our earliest opening in five years. A helping hand from Mother Nature, cold October temperatures and around-the-clock work by our snowmaking and mountain crews have made an early return to snow possible.”
This beginner- and intermediate-friendly zone is expanding with entirely new runs, wider gladed terrain, and beefed-up snowmaking infrastructure to ensure reliable coverage even during early-season windows.
Navigating the massive 4,200-acre resort will also be noticeably smoother. Crews have added dedicated connector trails, named Prunepickers and Pikaboo, designed to eliminate bottlenecks.
Additionally, high-traffic thoroughfares like Good Intentions have been reshaped to help skiers and snowboarders transition seamlessly between the resort’s distinct mountain faces.
Amid the improvements, Lake Louise ski resort looks forward to seeing visitors this weekend.
