British travel agency Wroxham Travel shuts down after 39 years in business

The United Kingdom’s travel industry has taken another blow as British travel agency Wroxham Travel has ceased operations after 39 years in business, TheStreet reported. The company ceased operations on October 30, leaving customers with questions about their existing bookings.

Wroxham Travel was established in 1987 and primarily served East Anglia. They offered coach tours, organized holiday packages and international travel arrangements. The Norfolk-based company operated in destinations including Spain, Italy, Türkiye, Indonesia, London, Zambia and Mauritius.

Wroxham Travel Agency’s two stores in Norfolk now appear to be closed, and its official website is no longer accessible. The Association of British Travel Agents attributed the company’s failure to insolvency. It also announced that the agency had canceled all future trips.

What will happen to existing bookings with Wroxham Travel Agency?

With Wroxham Travel Agency closed, the brand’s existing customers with bookings are worried about their trips. According to the Association of British Travel Agents, the company’s closure likely doesn’t mean existing bookings will be canceled. They mentioned that travelers who booked flights or hotel stays directly with suppliers should still be able to use them. Therefore, their bookings remain valid.

ABTA advised affected customers to monitor their bookings closely, contact accommodation providers and airlines directly to confirm their reservations, and keep their booking documents available, as they may require them. However, those whose bookings were canceled would be eligible for a refund through the Air Travel Organizers’ Licensing scheme.

Wroxham Travel is not the only travel company that faced financial difficulties this year. Other names include Salamander Voyages, Travel Bespoke, Regen Central, Set Sail Cruises, Yourtravelshop.com, Ski Yodel, Trav Expert, Groupia and TS Travels Group.

The closure of these travel agencies highlights the growing decline of the traditional travel agency business, as online travel companies have made it easier for travelers to book trips with a wide range of options.
