Cargo 2 review – Wapping Wharf
Cargo 2 is the launch of the 2nd phase at the Wapping Wharf development in Bristol. You may remember me writing about Cargo 1 a few months ago when I got to try some delicious food. Well of course it meant I was going to have to go to the launch of Cargo 2 as I wasn’t going to miss out on the opportunity to try some more amazing local vendors.
I went along with some other Bristol Blogger a few hours before the main event to meet with the new business owners and to also eat some food and I wasn’t disappointed. I love this new development and can guarantee its going to be very popular especially in the summer as you have views over the harbour, a cool vibrant atmosphere and amazing food.
Loop Massage – Pop into loop for a massage or to purchase some therapeutic products. There is only one therapist so you are best booking infact the owner told us how she is fully booked for the next few weeks so plan ahead.
The Bristol Cheesemonger – The Bristol Cheesemonger is a small independent business specialising in local and UK territorial cheeses. Be prepared when you walk into this shop though as it is a giant fridge which was brilliant on the super hot day we visited. The cheeses are all out on display so you are also going to get hit with the cheesy fragrant.
Rosie the owner is so knowledgeable about the cheeses that she sells. She explained how she goes to the producers weekly to pick the best products and is happy to discuss the ingredients and where the cheese has come from. We sampled some ricotta cheese and I don’t normally like ricotta unless it is in cooking but this was really creamy and tasty.
Mabboo – Cargo 2 isn’t just food vendor there are also a few retailers. One that I found really interesting was Mabboo which is an independent Bristol-based retailer specialising solely in clothing and accessories made using the world’s most sustainable plant, Bamboo. I didn’t even know you could make clothes from Bamboo and they just looked like normal cotton t-shirts. I loved the panda designs this is definitely a cool quirky present for someone.
CUPP Bubble Tea – CUPP specialises in authentic Taiwanese bubble tea and noodles. CARGO will be CUPP’s third opening in Bristol.
Oliver’s Ice Cream Ltd – Olivers is a family owned business making artisan Italian ice cream and sorbets from natural ingredients. They were really friendly and explained how they have been trained in Italian to make their ice creams and I have to admit they were so good. One of the novelty things in this shop was the lazy susan style ice cream fridge that spun round. You can even ask to try a sample before you purchase as it is going to be hard to decide which flavour to have. I tried the Thatcher gold cider sorbet and it was such a hot day that this was really refreshing. Also the apple pie flavour was delicious. And if you really like a flavour you can even purchase a family size tub to take home with you.
The Pickled Brisket – Bristol’s first dedicated salt beef bar, serving locally-sourced hot salt beef sandwiches. I have never had salt beef before but I love sandwiches and beef so it was pretty guaranteed I was going to enjoy this place and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. See my full review here.
Spuntino – Meaning “snack” in Italian, Spuntino specialises in small plates of Italian-influenced New York comfort food, set in a charming and elegant interior inspired by the roadside diners of 1950s America. We got to try a few dishes here and it was really tasty I cant wait t go back and try more. If you want to see what we tried here is my article on Spuntino
The Athenian – The Athenian is a street food endeavour following in the steps of traditional Greek souvlaki. I loved that you could see everything being cooked and it tasted so fresh.
Some of the other vendor were not quite finished so we didn’t get to ty anything but that just means I have to go back.

- Big Juice – Big Juice will provide nutritional, freshly-prepared fruit and vegetable juices and smoothies
- Cargo Cantina – Sister restaurant to Bristol favourite, Bravas, Cargo Cantina is a taco bar inspired by the cantinas of Mexico City.
- Gopal’s Curry Shack – Gopal’s serves vibrant and creative Indian inspired street food with a seasonal British twist.
- John Kelly 1880+ – Selling design-led jewellery, silver and metalware, circa 1880 to the present day, with a slant toward post-war Scandinavian and British design.
- Pure Yoga – Pure Yoga offers lunchtime express classes as well as early morning and evening classes for all levels.
- TARE – TARE is a 20-cover restaurant, with a menu regularly changing throughout the year allowing the team to work with the season’s best local produce.
- Salt & Malt – Chef and restaurateur, Josh Eggleton, will open a second Salt & Malt, serving signature gluten free fish and chips, as well as holding popup events and tasting menus. Salt & Malt Cargo will include an outdoor terrace with stunning views of The Matthew and Bristol’s Floating Harbour.
- Sholay – The owners of The Mint Room are set to open a modern new, casual dining concept called Sholay Indian Kitchen.
- A new venture from Brace & Browns will be “the fancier, younger and sexier cousin of Brace & Browns”, bringing plush cocktails and a new sharing style of eating to the scene.
